the answer (remastered)
"One of the best things I ever did for my production was posting my my tracks on generoproject.com. This is a group of idependent producers like myself who can upload songs for review as well as review other's compositions. Before the site went down a few years ago, I had posted Anthem E, vow my love, bumpin', and Synthergy, and the reviews were so helpful. The producers there were bluntly honest with my tracks and gave great suggestions. I really owe it to them on how my music has turned out.
After posting Synthergy and receiving some heavy constructive criticism, I decided to write a track that took all of the previous suggestions into account that I had received on the site. I thought of it as the answer to GP critiques, and so 'the answer' was borne.
The track itself keeps things simple. I used a fast tempo (154 bpms) with an equally fast set of synth rhythms coming off of various Superwave synths. The baseline was from the Triangle 2 synth, and judging from just these last two sentences you can see that I stayed software-based on this track. The composition of the track itself was very different for me since I forced myself to stick to only a few variations of synthesizer melodies in an attempt to streamline the track. To break up the pattern I through in the break beat section at 04:05, which many people really liked.
Much to my enjoyment, the track received very favorable reviews. As a matter of fact, a particular aspiring producer at the time by the name of DJ Liquid Style through around the idea of putting it on his newly formed record label. He mentioned that it was 'totally pressable' minus some production tweaks and would like to master it himself. Being a little immature in the industry and not knowing the mastering customs of record labels, I wasn't quite ready to let go of my music at that point; however, in true professional form DJ Liquid style gave no worries to the situation and instead agreed to give me a tutorial on mastering the track myself! From that point on I would never look at audio production the same as he showed me just how much potential you can bring out of a track with various processes - both digital and mental. It's really true that you can't go at anything in this life alone. Liquid Style, I still owe ya for that!
The remastered version of the track received fairly good reviews on generoproject, acquiring my first few 8/10 reviews from a few producers with tough sensibility in rating tracks. To this day, I still enjoy listening to the track and am very pleased with the brightness of the hi's, the thud of the lows, and the nrg of the synths. With generoproject back up and running, though, I think I'll have to give a few of my new tracks a go online to see where I stand today. It'd be nice to achieve some more 8/10 from my peers! What a great feeling that is. No matter what the future holds, though, this track will always be my answer not just to critiques but to my own challenge of constantly trying to improve."
